Flying colours on Thanksgiving long weekend

2015: This Thanksgiving long weekend promises to be perfect to admire fall colours from the top of the mountain! The Fall to Nature festival is offered October 3 and 4 and Thanksgiving weekend including Monday..

It’s so much fun to catch a chairlift ride when it’s not freezing. No need to stress when it’s time to get off (we’re free of gear). And what about the view! Many people ride the chairlift with their bikes (Kelso being famous for its mountain bike trails). Not having to bike up the mountain must be a real bonus. Some families would walk up the steep hill and catch the chairlift down (truly deserving their ride back). We chose to explore the trails into the trees at the top. They were ok but next time, i’d rather try the Escarpment Trail which takes advantage of the view (ask for a map at the entrance of Kelso CA). I did such a ride with my son when he was 4 years old. He loved it but I found it quite stressful to hold an excited little guy up in the air so he would not slip through. Last year, I did it with my 13 year old and discovered she has a bit of vertigo. (Never a dull moment!)
