Surprise, surprise

Kids activities at Evergreen Brick Works every weekend and holiday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Children's Garden in Chimney Court. The Farmers' Market is held year-round, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Thanks to the massive development project managed by Evergreen, all deteriorating heritage buildings of Don Valley Brick Works have been salvaged and integrated into an exciting showcase of urban green design. As a result, the place is buzzing with activities (especially on Saturdays) around the now so cool industrial buildings. But Brick Works still feel like a precious enclave hidden in the mega city as soon as you walk pass the complex. (Check the photo gallery of my spring visit in May 2014). Think fish and turtle in the pond, cranes, wildflower meadows, small creeks, trails climbing up slopes... Perfect for young explorers. As a transition between the two worlds, don’t miss the Chimney Court (by the tall chimney) and its fantastic interactive playground with ongoing projects kids can help with during drop-in session on the weekends. (In the winter, the space near the Garden Market turns into the Brickworks Skating Trail.)
