Spring-fed and urban

When I was told about this lake smack in the middle of a large suburban housing development, I envisioned… well, I could not envision it! You have to see it to believe it. Surrounded by 750 housing units, the man-made lake offers the best water in the region, a twisting water slide, a raft to jump from and a large sandy beach! When we arrived there, my kids ran like wild horses to try the fun slide throwing happy kids into the lake. My daughter spent the next few hours on that slide (minimum height is now 49 inches) while my son kept jumping of the raft, some 30 metres from shore. I was really taken by the sensation of swimming in Professor's Lake in Brampton. It felt so clean and refreshing. There are many reasons for that. The former gravel pit is spring-fed. It offers a large shallow area but reaches 42 feet in its deepest part. Plus, a storm drainage system protects the lake from water run-off from farms, houses and roads, following heavy rains. They rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boats.

By the way, they test their water at 2 p.m. every day. You can see the results on the link in our info box (right column).
