What many call Dundurn "castle" is in fact a superb manor that once belonged to one of Ontario's first Premiers, Sir Allan MacNab. The building has been preserved with much of its splendour, with magnificent furniture, trompe l'oeil walls and original artwork. The one-hour guided tour allowed us to admire the manor's three floors. Not interactive enough for my then 5-year-old son, he made us leave after 30 minutes (so I don’t have good pictures to show). It's a shame! I was told we would have visited the castle's basement, looking like an underground passage to a preschooler. We were then expected in the kitchen for a treat served by staff in period dress. Instead, we examined the large cannon sitting by the Hamilton Military Museum adjacent to the castle, which my pint-size dictator agreed to explore and thoroughly enjoyed. Don't forget that admission to nearby Hamilton Military Museum is included with your visit!
