Whatever their personality, young kids' attention is sure to be caught at a train show. My action-driven son was fascinated by the small trains riding full speed on the tiny tracks. His friend, the observant type, was absorbed in the examination of detailed small-scale landscapes. My young daughter was delighted by every display featuring an animal. When we visited, one model railway association tested children's observation skills by providing a list of funny details to spot. Another allowed visitors to play with remote controls. A long train track was set on the floor. We saw a couple of miniature circuses by the railway in small towns. Some buildings along the tracks were real pieces of art. We even had the chance to see someone in the process of building copper trains from scratch. Note that many displays are 48 inches high. I saw some parents bringing a stool for their preschoolers. Make sure you are in control of you little ones hands unless you want to see a grown man cry!
