The outdoor track lies in a beautiful woodland setting, in harmony with the trees. From the road, we can barely see it but we can hear the whistles' wet hissing, as the small steam engines rustle along the 7 1/4-inch wide tracks. At close range, you can even feel droplets coming down on your shoulders as they quickly condense; a refreshing mist on a hot summer day. Two larger tracks cover the whole site. They are conducted by enthusiasts outfitted with overalls and caps. Some of these hand-made steam engines range in cost up to $40,000. On the central track, the steam engines carry passengers, one at a time. There are also tracks surrounding the site, boasting stronger and larger trains that can carry up to 16 passengers on their small cars, and travel through the forest. The Richmond Hill Live Steamers offer their special open door event twice a year but you can see some members fine-tuning their engines on Sundays.
