Choo-choo!

The two-hour ride for the return trip from Stouffville-Goodwood-Uxbridge on an old diesel train offers enough choo-choos to fill young travellers' ears for quite a while! If you can, visit the railcars before choosing one, as there are different types. We opted for one with wine-red upholstery. There was a space between the back-to-back seats big enough for children to hide in. There, my young Captain Picard imagined a spaceship, while others saw it as a tent or a little house (it's impossible at this age to only look at the scenery for two hours). You can walk through the moving train to have a look at the track from the last wagon (but watch for the kids so they don't pinch their fingers in the joints between cars, as it moves with each bump). Check their calendar of event for special events such as the Strawberry Festival Trips, Teddy Bear trains, Halloween Theme Trips and Santa Train Theme Trips.

After years of doing all kinds of outings with my children, I can assure you the secret to a perfect outing lies in the details, not the destination.
