That sinking feeling

Event Village Open: April 08, 2017!

To my little landlubber, a grown-up reluctantly immersed in cold water is the funniest sight he's ever seen. Most crews take the plunge during the Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny event. Their craft is usually precarious: pieces of Styrofoam, wood, metal or plastic barrels piled or tied together, sometimes quite artistically. About 50 crazy crafts start the race every year but they don't all finish the race. A technical error happens so fast! Among others, we've admired a crew of eight rowers in their railcar-boat, the Flintstones in their prehistoric craft and an airplane-shaped raft. But the golfers on a floating green definitely took the cake (and finished without getting wet). The 10-km course ends downtown, where the ambience is great. We found a spot along Cavan Street, close to where it crosses Barrett Street. The banks were lined with flat stones and sloped down gently. It formed a natural stroller-accessible amphitheatre, with a great view.
