So that’s it! After 11 years in Toronto, the Hippo Tours has moved to Vancouver. I still wanted to describe our experience in Toronto, in case you have a chance to try it in Vancouver. First time we got close to a Hippo Bus, we noticed something weird underneath the vehicle… Long wet weeds! You know, like the ones that can be observed at the bottom of Lake Ontario. The fact is, Hippo's drivers have to be licensed marine captains to be allowed to pilot the intriguing Canadian-made amphibious buses. The kids were already excited by the overall look of the vehicle. Accessing the bus from a rear entrance added to the novelty. My young companions felt like royalty when they saw the reactions our hippo got from the people along the sidewalks on our indirect way to Ontario Place. It makes one feel uneasy to watch one's vehicle get nearer to the water than reason would dictate. Then closer, and closer, then we're in with a splash. We undertook our smooth ride on the lake amidst the elegant structure of Ontario Place. Our captain led us up to the end of the channel opening into Lake Ontario.
