We were grateful for this nice swim almost right in town, on our way back from another attraction in the region. Regardless of the name, don't expect shade on the beach but there are plenty of trees around the boat rental (where you can also rent canoes). We did not have time for this but paddling along the reservoir was really tempting because of its shape, with a long arm of water to explore, stretching out one side. Shade's Mill Conservation Area's map showed a footbridge and 12 kms of nature trails (turning into cross-country ski trails in the winter).
