Website: www.standrewstoronto.orgNearby restaurants: • There’s a Tim Hortons at the corner of King and John Street but if you’re with older kids, I recommend a quality snack at the OB Canteen across the street, on the first floor of the Tiff Bell Lightbox.
While you are there: • If the little 48th Highlanders Museum, located in the basement of the church, is open when you visit, have a look! • It is fun to stroll around the square by the Roy Thomson Hall just west of St. Andrew’s Church with fountain and sculptures. Don’t miss the hidden pond along the north side of the building (it sits lower than the street level).

Like a downtown castle
St. Andrew’s Church is an intriguing sight, towered by tall modern buildings. With its rose window above and triple arched entrance, it is a lovely example of Romanesque architecture. If you approach it from the west, your kids will believe it is a castle in the middle of the city, thanks to the four turrets projecting from the church’s southwest tower. Adults will appreciate the unique round upper gallery and gorgeous stained glass windows. If you have a chance, try to visit on Wednesdays or Thursdays, when the 48th Highlanders Museum is open in the church’s basement.
