On one side, it looks as if the rink extends into Lake Ontario. On the other, the sun shines on the imposing CN Tower. The Natrel Rink is decidedly a cool skating spot! From the Lakeside outdoor terrace, visitors can observe skaters while eating or sipping hot chocolate.
This is where we decided, years ago, to introduce our little one to the trials and tribulations (and fun) of outdoor skating. He was quite surprised when his blades hit the slippery surface. In the hour that followed, as we pulled him along between us, he looked like a prisoner being brought to death row... but he was laughing. Some object to skating in the crowded conditions on the weekend, however, you won't find that many skaters before 11 a.m.. Moreover, given the rink's odd shape, there are some secluded spots to be enjoyed by those not too eager on speed skating. They offer blade sharpening service for $5, and skate rental ($8/adults and $6/kids).
While you're there on the weekends, enjoy the free craft activities on the second floor in Miss Lou's Room. Older kids will enjoy the free DJ SkateNights, every Saturday featuring a different DJ from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
