The Bowmanville Zoo encompasses 42 acres, compared to the over 700 acres of Toronto Zoo, and a more modest sampling of animals (a little over 200). The upswing however, is that you can tour the zoo in a single visit and interact with the animals. In addition, the broad paths that criss-cross the zoo are generally well shaded by the bordering mature trees; a real plus on hot summer days. Daily performances involving lions, elephants or the many other kinds of animals are presented in the impressive 400-seat indoor Animatheatre. Animal encounters also take place in and around an outdoor cage and you can feed many animals with the special food you can buy on the premises. They've added a new Expedition Predator (with you in a tram amidst some free-roaming animals). Bring the bathing suits! They've recently added a big splash pad.
