With over 5,000 animals, there's no way you're going to show them all to your kids between lunch and nap time! So why not focus on your child's current favourite animal and start from there? At the entrance, take a few seconds to consult the day's schedule for feedings and encounters with animal keepers (to learn the animals' names, what and how much they eat, etc.). Toronto Zoo's five indoor pavilions with tropical surroundings are great when the weather is very cold or on rainy days. Plus, they're perfect when visiting with younger kids: The animals are within arms' reach... and so are the kids! If the weather is very warm, don't forget to bring the bathing suits to cool down at the delightful Splash Island near the Discovery Zone, the most interactive section of the entire zoo.

After years of doing all kinds of outings with my children, I can assure you the secret to a perfect outing lies in the details, not the destination.
