I think Imax technology is used at its best when revealing an environment very few of us will ever get to see first hand (the bottom of the sea, the top of the highest mountains, etc.) My son disagrees, more inclined to appreciate Imax the most when it depicts extreme speed and sports or action movies. In many Imax theatres, the person's head in the row in front of you will reach your knee level. There's no question you'll have a perfect view of the large screen (sometimes 8-storey-high). All Imax screens are designed to encompass our peripheral vision, which also contributes to make the experience different from a regular night at the movies. Film critic Jason Gorber says the Scotiabank Theatre Imax hall is by far the best downtown venue, with an astonishing screen size and impeccable sound system that "dwarfs other halls". (He recommends sitting 6 rows from the back wall.) For other Imax venues, check Imax's website.
