I have heard from several sources, who've actually lived in Hong Kong, that going to Pacific Mall would be the closest to experiencing the real thing without catching a plane. I was surprised by how small most of the stores were in the mall. We could not understand one word anybody said to each other, most signs were not in English, and we were quite the visible minority in this environment! The second floor is where the most exotic section of the mall is located. Shops are even smaller. Dragons greeted us on large murals. Many stores only accept cash. You can find tiny silk outfits for girls, cool trinkets for cell phones, many electronic shops and collector card outlets, a variety store with all kinds of nicely packaged snacks. When we visited, there was also a great arcade and a real karaoke place with private booths (I could not reach anyone at Pacific Mall to confirm they're still there).
