Storytelling, theatrical situations, dramatic conductors or even puppets, nothing is ruled out by the Young People's Concert series put together by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and presented at Roy Thomson Hall in order to initiate children to the world of classical music. They recently accompanied excerpts from the movie Fantasia with live music from the TSO. Last time we attended during Christmas time, we saw the animated movie based on Raymond Briggs' touching book The Snowman; we sang Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman along with the orchestra; we heard a full orchestra version of the (then) theme song of Hockey Night in Canada and listened to Vivaldi's Winter, enriched by the conductor's reading of Vivaldi's comments on the original score.
