From the schlink sound of the double chairlift, to the swoosch of skis scrapping the slope and the huge fireplace that sits in the ski chalet, the Earl Bales Centre looks like the real thing. But you won't see the slopes running down as you arrive at Earl Bales Park, that's because they run down into the ravine, behind the centre, hidden from the view. When you walk over and stand at the top of the chairlift, you'll find the modest slope served by the chairlift (what did you expect? We're in the middle of the city, in a ravine surrounded by high-rises!), and a gentle slope for beginners equipped with a Tow Rope, absolutely perfect for beginners. The ski centre has snowmaking equipment and night lighting. It offers ski and snowboard lessons and equipment rental (note that due to high demand for equipment, there may be a waiting period). I think it is also a great place for skiers who want to try snowboarding for the first time. Why bother being ridiculous at Blue Mountain when you can do that in town at a lower cost?
