TIFF Kids (the little brother of the Toronto International Film Festival) aims to present the best movies from around the world, made for children from 3 to 13 years of age. I'm not one to think big commercial successes automatically lack in depth and messages but it's nice to take a break from Disney! In many of the films for 8 years and over that I've seen, young viewers could relate to the way the characters learn to overcome their difficulties. This kids’ film festival traditionally thrills the younger crowd with Reel rascals, a series of shorts. And check their Loot Bag feature showcasing a collection of shorts with different animation styles. Note that the English subtitles for many foreign language films are read aloud live by a narrator (for the benefit of those who still can't read). TIFF Kids now has a permanent home in the magnificent TIFF Bell Lightbox, a perfect setting for the weekend activities offered on the weekends during this event.
