Plan B

Donald D. Summerville Pool is a huge outdoor pool by the lake in the Beach neighbourhood, at the foot of Woodbine Avenue. It could be an excellent Plan B if you arrive at the Beach to find out that the water quality is not suitable for swimming in Lake Ontario (which is sometimes the case the day after a storm). For many (including my son) it is the Plan A, because of the special diving option. This pool includes a 5-metre high diving board (with its own receiving pool). There's also a 10-metre high platform next to it (I was told it is not open for regular public use). Divers have to pass a quick swim test, and so do those who want to use the deep-end section. I've always found the water too cold for my taste but apparently, my kids can’t be bothered with that sort of detail.

The only problem with this beautiful pool is that the washroom facilities are three floors down. Not too easy to get to especially if you have small children. The only washroom on the pool level is reserved for the lifeguards. By the end of the day, the water is not too fresh...
