Forsythia Festival in Cabbagetown (Toronto)

The yellow parade

The Forsythia Festival 2017 is on Sunday May 7 at 10 a.m.

Forsythia Festival is a cute and (very) small local family event. The best part is that YOU are in the parade. You start near Riverdale Farm and you get to stroll around Cabbagetown, admiring this neighbourhood's gorgeous houses along the way at the sound of a brass band (Heavyweights Brass Band in 2017). The parade heads to lovely Wellesley Park (north on Sumach, east on Amelia) where you can expect entertainment, probably fire trucks and food stands. Try to wear something yellow (the colour of Forsythia flowers) to fit in! You can even go crazy. Last time we attended, a lady had covered herself with yellow balloons, kids had decorated their bikes with yellow paper flowers, people were carrying yellow umbrellas, etc. Good clean old-fashioned fun!

After years of doing all kinds of outings with my children, I can assure you the secret to a perfect outing lies in the details, not the destination.
