It's about time...
Kids live in the present moment so they can’t picture themselves having fun somewhere else... later. I can’t count the times when I had to peel my kids off the living room to drag them to a “fun place” (wondering why I even bother), to eventually see them fully enjoying the outing. Why? Good news. Kids live in the present moment! So don't ask them if they want to go to a place. They're bad judges of how much fun they would get out of it. Just do it.
Give them a 15-minute warning before leaving (read note above). It will help the transition. And it’s better not to time your departure in the middle of the TV show they're watching or a game they're playing.
Identify their infatuation of the month and find an outing in accordance. The books and songs they love best will give you clues. They’re big fans of The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round? Take them on a bus ride. The Little Engine That Could? It’s time for a train ride. Harry Potter? How about a visit to the Casa Loma?
